Masterclasses
Overview of our underlying values and philosophies and ideas about teaching which we hold explicitly or implicitly. Focus on masterclass – what is a masterclass, what is its purpose, how does learning happen in it, how do participants experience it, what is the role of the “master” etc.? Each of us will bring an example of a masterclass which we feel has had a big impact, in a good way or not so good way. Examples can be from any kind of masterclass: for example, a public masterclass taken by an international artist, or a class given by a regular visiting professor. These will form the starting point for discussions in small groups. A final plenary session will distil our understanding of the underlying principles of successful masterclasses.
